Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Squad and Confirms Havertz Injury Blow.
The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his squad can persist in handling with fitness issues after confirming that attacker Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.
Extended Absence for German Star
The German forward has been sidelined since August following knee surgery. Originally slated to return sooner, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when stepping up his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the next phase.”
“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” Arteta said.
Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash
This development creates a dilemma for the midweek home game against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net as a makeshift striker last weekend, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention following a lengthy absence.

In response if more options was aiding their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Absolutely, as this campaign has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he noted.
“Our previous experiences taught us that we have to use players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the top. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Speaking about the delay noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered additional context. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have overcome that hurdle.”
Arteta expressed his personal desire to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, personally, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his character, his attitude. I observe his frustration being outside.”
